Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) hosted an action-packed second round of the 2018/2019 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship over the weekend, with four local talents rising to the occasion and claiming fine victories.
Bahrainis Hani Hussain, Nawaf Almanai, Hussain Akbar and Mohamed Al Taitoon all triumphed in the hotly contested meeting. Hussain claimed first place in the Pro Mod category, Almanai won the Super Street 6-Cylinder class, Akbar clinched first place in the Super Street V8 and Al Taitoon won the Street Fight Bikes.
The winning quartet were among a whopping 152 participants from all across the region who flocked to “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East” to duel down BIC’s NHRA-sanctioned strip.
Hussain was the top finisher in the Pro Mod class after beating Kuwait’s Suleman Alfadhel in the final. Hussain had a time of 4.090 seconds to clinch the win, whereas Alfadhel faced some trouble and finished with an 18.732s mark.
In the Super Street 6-Cylinder, Almanai won with a 7.243s final pass. He defeated Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Hussain, who clocked a time of 7.881s.
Akbar also had a narrow win in the Super Street V8 final, where he went against countryman Khalid Ahmed. Akbar posted a time of 4.446s in his run, beating Ahmed who had a 4.755s mark.
For Al Taitoon, his win in the Street Fight Bikes came after outgunning Saudi’s Mohamed Al Doseri. Al Taitoon went for a 12.461s run while Al Doseri completed his pass in 13.927s.
Elsewhere in the round, several Kuwaiti drivers were successful in taking the top step on their respective podium.
Bader Dashti won in the Outlaw FWD class against Bahrain’s Jassim Ali, Jassim Zaman triumphed in the Outlaw 6-Cylinder against Emirati Faisal Abdulla, and Mohammed Suleman claimed the Street V8 win after beating Bahraini Ali Aljawder. Sayed Hussain Alhadad was victorious in the Index 8.5 class after going against Saudi’s Jassim Mohammed in the final, and Bader bin Eidan triumphed in the Street Bikes category after beating compatriot Ahmed Alarrouj.
The Saudi contingent was almost just as successful as the Kuwaitis, with four winners emerging on the night. Nabeel Al Isa won the Outlaw 10.5 category against Kuwaiti Mohammed Qassim, while Ali Abdulrahman followed suit with a win in the Index 10.5 class after going against Bahrain’s Ala Abdulla Yousif in the final. Mohammed Jawad triumphed in the Index 9.5 division after beating Bahraini Yousif Khamiri, while Mishari Alturki was the top man amongst all the participants in the Super Street Bikes. He beat Kuwait’s Meshari Al Mari in the final.
The other winner on the night was Abdulmajed Hussain from the UAE, who was competing in the Competition 4.5 class. He beat out Bahrain’s Mohammed bu Saylom in the final.
The season’s second meeting followed the hugely exciting first round held last month. The event was the last action for the calendar year in the series. The 2018/2019 campaign features five rounds in all, ensuring plenty of action until early March of next year. Round three will be from January 15 to 19, round four from February 19 to 23, and then the championship finale will be held from February 26 to March 2.
